Reba’s new sitcom will see life on a major network, Vince Gill is not a fan of modern country music, and June is one of the busiest of 2012 for new album releases.
Today is Thursday, May 17, and this is the latest edition of MCE Weekly.
Reba’s New Show To Air On ABC
The love affair between ABC and country music continues with news breaking that Reba McEntire’s new show, “Malibu Country,” has been picked up by the T.V. network.
ABC had already agreed to air the pilot of the show, but earlier this week, it was confirmed that they would run the entire first season, much to the delight of Reba.
The show will star Reba as a divorced mother of three who moves to Malibu, California from Nashville after her rock-star husband cheats on her. “Malibu Country” will feature the vast differences between life in Nashville and California, while Reba’s character also tries to reignite her own music career.
There are no specific details as to when the first episode will air, but we’ll keep you in the loop as future news breaks.
Vince Gill Speaks His Mind On Modern Country
After spending 23 years with MCA Records, country music legend Vince Gill parted ways with the label earlier this year, and above all, he feels that it’s not so much the difference between his visions for future music and MCA, but it’s more about where the genre is headed. And Vince doesn’t like it.
He said that in light of the way the commercial music industry is today, he had been all but pushed out the door by a label that he called home for over two decades. He admitted that he’s worried about where the industry is now, and where it’s headed in the years to come.
Out from under the major label limitations, Gill will be busy the rest of the year and beyond. In addition to a 12-city bluegrass tour as well as a sling of hit-heavy performances, he’ll also be releasing an album with his western swing band, the Time Jumpers. More details on that as they become available. Fans can expect this type of backlash from the more traditional artists as country music continues to modernize in the future.
June Is THE Month For New Releases
As is the case every year, the summer months are always the most popular for country tours. But this year, June will hit fans hard with a slate of brand new albums by some of the biggest artists in the genre.
On June 5, Alan Jackson will release ‘Thirty Miles West’ and newcomer Jana Kramer will unveil her self-titled disc. One week later (June 12), Darryl Worley offers ‘One Time Around,’ Edens Edge puts out their self-titled album, while Josh Turner’s highly anticipated new album ‘Punching Bag’ will hit shelves.
The rest of the month sees releases from Chris Cagle, Colt Ford, Don Williams, Kenny Chesney, and Marlee Scott on June 19, followed by new music from Aaron Lewis (of Staind) and Gloriana on June 26. Wow!
That is a ton of great music for you to listen to…and a lot of album reviews for us to work on! We better get listening!
Taylor Swift’s New Album!
Calm down. There’s no release date. There’s no title. Actually, we haven’t really even heard from Taylor herself.
But we have heard from British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, who confirmed via Twitter recently that he is working with Swift on what will be her fourth studio album.
Taylor hasn’t said much at all about her new album. She’s currently taking a break from the road after a ridiculous run on the ‘Speak Now’ tour. But she did say that a lot of the new music she has written is sad.
One thing is for sure: no one has ANY idea what to expect from Ms. Swift’s new album.
