Country Music Headlines – MCE Weekly

Happy Friday everyone!  Two MCE Weekly segments in one week!?  That’s what happens when there’s this much news circling in the world of country music.

Craig Morgan announces charity event details, Jo Dee Messina has a serious problem with Chris Young, while Carrie Underwood and Dierks Bentley are paying homage to teachers and education.  Today is Friday, July 27, and this is the latest edition of MCE Weekly.

Craig Morgan’s Charity Weekend

Craig Morgan has announced plans for his 6th annual Charity Weekend, scheduled for August 11 and 12 in Dickson, Tennessee, the singer’s hometown.

Proceeds will benefit Billy’s Place, an organization that helps foster children in Dickson County and Middle Tennessee.

All of the family-friendly events are open to the public, and similar to years past, they offer something for everyone.  There will be a motocross exhibition, a group trail ride and lunch, a live and silent auction, the Sporting Clay Shoot, and of course, a performance by Morgan and friends singing an acoustic set.

It seems we say this constantly about country music, but these are the types of events that separate this genre from the rest.  Craig Morgan is all about having a good time on the stage, but he’s also about helping those in need.  This is a great cause, a great charity, and promises to be another successful event this year.

Jo Dee Messina vs. Chris Young

This is a weird story, and one that quite frankly, hardly ever rears its head in country music.  It’s only natural that not all stars and celebrities get along, and country music is no different.  However, we usually don’t hear of things like this…especially not from these two.

Jo Dee Messina apparently came across Chris Young somewhere in L.A. and, while we don’t know exactly what transpired, Jo Dee left the encounter very unhappy.

“OMG! Just saw @ChrisYoung Music.  He was ugly, arrogant, and rude,” Jo Dee said via Twitter. “Really country radio?  This guys an ass.”

Again, we have no idea what happened between these two, and why Messina would be so angry.  Whatever the case, this is a disappointing cloud over what has become known as the brightest genre in music in terms of gossip-induced drama.  Did Chris Young deserve a comment like that?  We can’t speculate, but hopefully this situation will dissolve itself quickly.

“Teachers Rock” Television Special

Teachers and the education system will get the attention, recognition, and appreciation they deserve on Saturday, August 18, during a CBS TV special titled “Teachers Rock.”  And of course, country music will be well represented, as Carrie Underwood and Dierks Bentley join an impressive cast of musicians and actors for the celebration.

Underwood and Bentley both credit their education to motivate them pursue and achieve their musical endeavors, and they’ll join the rest of the cast of celebrities and music stars for the event, which will include performances and personal recollections of school memories.

In addition to Carrie and Dierks, other stars scheduled to appear include Fun, Josh Groban, Jennifer Garner, Adam Levine, Usher, Jack Black, and Morgan Freeman.  The event will take place on August 14 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, and again, will air on August 18 at 8:00pm on CBS.  Proceeds will benefit DonorsChoose.org, Feeding America, and Teach for America.

Carrie Underwood To Perform On “Today”

It seems that there are multiple stories and news clips on Carrie Underwood on almost a daily basis…and today is no different.  It was announced earlier this week that the country music superstar has been slated to perform on the Today Show Summer Concert Series on Wednesday, August 15.  The show will be part of a full week of outdoor performances following the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Carrie is slated to perform her new single, “Blown Away,” in addition to some of her biggest hits from earlier albums.  Perhaps this’ll be more of a tune up for the upcoming U.S. leg of “The Blown Away Tour” in September.  We can’t wait for the tour to hit the states, and it’ll be nice to have a little preview on the Today Show.

Taylor Swift’s Cat Making Headlines

Seriously?  A cat is making headlines?  Well when the cat belongs to Taylor Swift, the biggest star, not only in country music, but in across the board, any news will top the headlines.

Taylor’s cat, Meredith, has topped E!’s list of the 100 Best Things In Pop Culture.  As incredible as it sounds, based on how the list was constructed, the cat does belong at the top.  It is almost constantly featured on Swift’s Twitter and Instagram, and is one of the more endearing and publicity-provoking pets in the history of pop culture.
